Ermita del Carmen
Descripción
La ermita de Nuestra Señora del Carmen se sitúa coronando el barrio del Carmen, en el punto más elevado de Albarracín.
Aunque es considerada como una de las ermitas más antiguas de la Sierra, dado que sus orígenes se remontan al siglo XIII, el edificio actual es el resultado de sucesivas de reformas y reconstrucciones desarrolladas a lo largo de su historia.
Posee una estructura sencilla, con una sola nave rectangular de dos tramos y cabecera plana sobre la que se eleva una cúpula semiesférica.
En la parte delantera cuenta con un atrio que sirve de antesala al templo y en la parte posterior posee un cuerpo anexo que hace las veces de sacristía.
Al exterior el edificio consta de diferentes volúmenes desarrollados por muros de mampostería y techumbres a dos y cuatro aguas cubiertas por teja árabe.
El día 15 de julio de cada año la talla de la virgen custodiada en su interior es trasladada a la iglesia del Santo Cristo para la celebración de una misa en su honor.
Al día siguiente, portada en andas por mujeres jóvenes de la localidad, la imagen de la virgen asciende de nuevo la empinada ladera para regresar en romería a la ermita del Carmen.
Description
The hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Carmen is located crowning the Carmen neighborhood, at the highest point of Albarracín.
Although it is considered one of the oldest hermitages in the Sierra, given that its origins date back to the 13th century, the current building is the result of successive reforms and reconstructions developed throughout its history.
It has a simple structure, with a single rectangular hall with two sections and a flat head above which a hemispherical dome rises.
At the front it has an atrium that serves as an anteroom to the temple and at the back it has an annex that serves as a sacristy.
On the outside, the building consists of different volumes developed by masonry walls and gabled and hipped roofs covered by Arabic tiles.
On July 15 of each year, the carving of the virgin kept inside is transferred to the Church of Santo Cristo for the celebration of a mass in her honor.
The next day, carried on litters by young women from the town, the image of the virgin ascends the steep slope again to return in a pilgrimage to the hermitage of Carmen.
